If The Iron Be Blunt

Satan knows that he has but a short time and is now working more thoroughly than perhaps he ever has worked before. Although so many already follow him with such devilish zeal, he will neither slumber nor sleep until he takes the earth completely by violence. n this evil day, our weapons of warfare must be brandished with an uncommon edge of sharpness.

Therefore to fight this most formidable enemy requires a whetted mind of sobriety and vigilance. If not,  Eccesiates 10:10 warns that "If the iron be blunt and we do not whet the edge, we must put to more strength", and so risk wearing ourselves out before the fight is won and we go to our long home. We cannot kick against the pricks. We cannot go in our own strength. We must whet the edge of our glittering sword while it is called today!

So let us whet the edge!  We must endeavor to fall upon the sharpening stone of prayer, wet with tears. We must put on the implements of the whole armor of God, wet with the anointing of God.  And, if the inward man is dull and unremarkable we must be whetted by our Christian brothers and so receive our sharpening.

Being so dull, we ought to be teachers, but instead are having to whet ourselves with the first principles of the oracles of God. O shame! O danger looms with our dull and nullified Christian swords that are not wet with glittering.  "Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom and with all your getting, get understanding" (Proverbs 4:7). Now then let wisdom direct your warfare and preparation and whetting and sharpening. For, wisdom is profitable to direct!

Austin Gatherings uses the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, and Pastor Mark Jones will be preaching today out of Ecclesiastes 10:10.
